What to inspect
- The thin yellow fence stresses map resolution and PCSS filtering; low quality should lose more of the individual slat detail.
- The tall colored blocks cast long shadows whose penumbrae widen across the neutral receiver.
- The receding stair lane crosses fitted cascade ranges. Select Cascades to see the active light-space view and its blend region.
- The small blocks near the camera make shadow attachment and receiver bias easier to judge.
Use Visibility to remove material lighting and inspect only the directional shadow factor. Sun Angular Radius controls the apparent light size, so increasing it makes the PCSS penumbrae wider. Drag the canvas to orbit manually and use the wheel or trackpad to zoom; disable Auto Orbit when comparing presets from a fixed angle.
Quality presets
The example passes the selected preset directly to ShadowMapRenderer:
| Preset | Directional map | Cascades | Blocker / filter samples |
|---|---|---|---|
| Low | 1024 | 3 | 8 / 12 |
| Balanced | 1536 | 4 | 16 / 24 |
| Cinematic | 2048 | 4 | 24 / 48 |
The geometry and default light stay fixed while presets change. Pause Auto Orbit before a side-by-side comparison so camera movement does not change cascade fitting or texel alignment.
